Your First Few Days in CNA Profession

Similar to any other profession, first couple of days of performing in a healthcare center, will make you nervous, confused and frantic during your patients’ care. As you will continue offering different services to patients, uneasiness will always run behind you, assuming lots of stared eyes of your co-workers or registered nurses looking at you. Even after becoming a skilled CNA someday, you can not forget your first week’s experience in the workplace. This is a universal truth and happens to everyone involved in healthcare profession.
Though you have studied well and expertly trained, however, in usual course you will have to encounter weird patients as well as co-nurses. Hence, this is unavoidable but you need to be prepared and develop your mind set on few factors so that you can come out of such mental awkwardness.
Remind your lessons
You need to remember basics of nursing, understanding of symptoms and numbers of definitions that you learnt in your CNA training institute. If any confusion arises, think twice, wait a bit and provide relevant service to your patient. Nothing to worry about or   become feared, thinking about co-workers attention or RN’s eyes. You are responsible for your patient’s health and keeping him orderly and secured is your duty. Ensure to provide them your best care and services.
Do not forget essentials
Keep few essential things always with you. These items are a pad, pen, and obviously your stethoscope.  These are the items that you will need always when on round. Being just in the profession, there is always a fair possibility to miss something in the staff room and at the time of providing service to any patient, if you seek for the same, it will be ridiculous and obviously noticed.
Make a program
Workload may appear overwhelming at the beginning while your performance will also be counted. To perform in order, make an overall plan of your entire shift. As you report the workplace, find the patients for that day, you need to care for. Go through their medical records carefully, ensure present status and jot down in your pad. It will provide you a clear idea of room numbers where you are supposed to check your patients. On the other hand, patients’ evaluation will be a good input in formulating your possible treatment methods, on the whole.
Prioritize service process
Assessment of patients will make it possible for you to determine patients who are in unstable position. Apart from regular rounds, checking and treatment, you may require making more visits to those unsteady patients frequently.  Communicate freely and compassionately with patients to know about their troubles, feelings and needs.
Ask for assistance
No crime or shy in asking for assistance or help. Remember, you are offering healthcare services to those sick people who have come to your workplace to get them well. For gods’ sake, if there is any uncertainty in mind, talk to your senior without any hesitation immediately. Even, in urgency knock your co-workers and ask for help. Such situation is common in nursing field, even after you become an expert while providing a wrong service is a criminal offence.
Job change
If you don't like the company you're working for you can search for a new job. Before applying for any new job prepare your resume with the help of some good CNA resume examples. If you get any interview call prepare yourself for the interview very well. You can study some CNA interview questions online.
Summary
Whichever healthcare facility you join as CNA, in first few days you have to counter lot of confusions. Be confident, understand situation and act wisely. Whenever, you are in need, ask for necessary support from your seniors and co-workers.
